Six municipalities in Apayao were honored for their environmental programs and solid waste management efforts during the 9th Cordillera Environment Summit held on June 30 at the Newtown Plaza Hotel.

Recognized during the summit were the municipalities of Flora, Santa Marcela, Calanasan, Pudtol, Conner, and Luna.

Flora received the BADANG Award, a Plaque of Excellence for Outstanding EMB-Assisted Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Operations, and citations for its sanitary landfill, EMB-assisted MRFs in Barangays Poblacion East and Malubibit Sur, and Green Enterprise in Waste Management.

Santa Marcela emerged as Champion under the C.A.R.A.Y.A.N. Program. The municipality also earned awards for its EMB-assisted Materials Recovery Facility and sanitary landfill, while five barangays were cited for their participation in river conservation activities under the same program.

Calanasan received BADANG Awards for its sanitary landfill and EMB-assisted Materials Recovery Facility, while Pudtol earned citations for its sanitary landfill, Green Enterprise in Waste Management, and EMB-assisted Materials Recovery Facility.

Conner received a BADANG Award and a Certificate of Recognition for its EMB-assisted Materials Recovery Facility, while Luna was recognized for its sanitary landfill.

The awards highlight the progress of Apayao’s municipalities in waste management and environmental protection, with local initiatives continuing to gain recognition at the regional level.
