More families across Apayao’s barangays are expected to receive closer and more responsive social welfare services following the deployment of 138 newly hired Apayao Barangay Social Welfare Workers (ABSWW).
The workers formally began their engagement after attending an orientation and contract signing on February 12, 2026, at the Aliwa Gym in San Isidro Sur, Luna. They will be assigned to their respective barangays to assist in implementing social welfare programs, monitoring beneficiaries, and supporting community-based initiatives under the Provincial Government.
During the orientation, participants were briefed on their roles, performance targets, administrative procedures, and office policies. They were also oriented on priority interventions under the Apayao Socio-Economic Efforts Necessary for Growth (ASENG) program, which includes livelihood support, waste management initiatives, and other grassroots services.
Representing the Office of the Governor, Donato Balag underscored the value of their role in community development. “ABSWW is the first step to your employment,” Balag said, encouraging the workers to take the responsibility seriously as they serve in their respective barangays. The 2025 provincial accomplishments of the ABSWW program were also presented, highlighting its contribution to strengthening social protection mechanisms at the local level.
An Armed Forces of the Philippines recruitment orientation was likewise conducted, offering additional career opportunities for interested participants. The newly hired ABSWWs will receive a daily wage of up to P500, with contracts covering January to June 2026.
Provincial officials said the initiative reinforces Apayao’s push to bring government services closer to communities and improve coordination at the barangay level.
