The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) met with the Benchmarking and Training Taskforce on February 10, 2026, at the Aliwa Gym to firm up coordination and preparations for the First Northern Luzon Rescuelympics.
Set on March 16–20, 2026, the Rescuelympics is a joint initiative of the Office of Civil Defense–Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR) and the Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) through the PDRRMC. The activity is designed to strengthen disaster response skills and improve coordination among rescue teams from Northern Luzon.

Guided by Memorandum No. 005, Series of 2026, the meeting tackled technical concerns, including the finalization of event mechanics, composition of training teams, designation of umpire assistants, and identification of personnel for specialized search and rescue training.
Present were representatives from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Santa Marcela District Hospital (SMDH), Amma Jadsac District Hospital (AJDH), Flora District Hospital (FDH), and the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC), along with personnel from the 98th Infantry Battalion, Bureau of Fire Protection–Apayao, 1406th CDC/ARESCOM, Apayao Provincial Police Office, and the Municipal Health and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices.

As host province and one of the competing teams, Apayao continues to tighten its preparations to ensure readiness and effective coordination during emergency operations.
Provincial DRRM Officer Joeffrey M. Borromeo stressed the need for full engagement of technical staff as the province moves into its final phase of preparations.
