MOVE Apayao charging station opens at ASC

Electric vehicle charging facilities are now available in Apayao following the inauguration of the MOVE Apayao Charging Station at Apayao State College (ASC) in San Isidro Sur, Luna on May 18, strengthening efforts to promote sustainable transportation and smart mobility in the province.

The initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), DOST-CAR, Apayao State College, the Provincial Government of Apayao, and local government units aims to advance cleaner, more efficient, and accessible transport systems in line with the province’s environmental sustainability goals.

The project includes the installation of AC and fast-charging facilities, procurement of electric tricycles and charging units, and support for converting conventional tricycles into electric-powered vehicles. It also features Cagayan State University’s e-trikes, TOJO Motor’s eJeepney, and the University of the Philippines-Diliman’s CHaRM (Charging in Minutes) technology that enables faster and more efficient charging of electric vehicles. The charging station was funded through a ₱520,000 allocation.

Officials from the DOST Central Office, DOST-CAR, provincial and municipal government offices, national agencies, members of the 11th Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and ASC officials attended the activity headed by ASC President Dr. John N. Cabansag. Also present was Engr. Maria Teresa B. De Guzman, DOST Assistant Secretary for Countryside Development.

DOST Apayao Project Leader Engr. Carluz R. Bautista presented the project overview and technology discussion and demonstrated the charging system prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony. An electric jeepney was also showcased during the program.

The electric mobility infrastructure serves as ASC’s counterpart contribution to the MOVE Apayao project in support of science, technology, and environmental sustainability initiatives in the province.

In his message, Dr. Cabansag said initiatives promoting green technology and cleaner transportation can help support long-term environmental and development goals in the province, adding that the program also reflects ASC’s contribution to sustaining Apayao’s recognition as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

DOST-CAR Regional Director Dr. Nancy A. Bantog meanwhile emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among schools, local governments, and national agencies in expanding smart mobility initiatives in Apayao.

The activity concluded with a visit to the ASC Payanan Site using the electric jeepney.
