The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) met with representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) on July 8 at the Session Hall of the Paul A. Delwasen Legislative Building to discuss the province’s proposed Tobacco and Vaping Control Ordinance.
The meeting was attended by WHO representative Dr. Florante Trinidad, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members Hon. Mcleen Julian and Hon. John Anthony S. Amid, SP Secretary Atty. Larry Pattag Jr., and representatives from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO).

Among the provisions discussed were the regulation of tobacco and vaping products, enforcement mechanisms, and measures intended to support the implementation of the proposed ordinance in the province’s seven municipalities.

Dr. Trinidad shared WHO’s recommendations on local tobacco control and cited the value of a common policy framework among local government units. He also noted that Apayao’s initiative could serve as a reference for other provinces developing similar public health policies.

Provincial officials and health representatives also discussed areas where WHO could provide technical support as the province moves forward with the proposed ordinance.
