Rex Gatchalian, Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was formally recognized as a Son of Conner, Apayao following the adoption of a Sangguniang Bayan Resolution by the Municipality of Conner on Wednesday, February 4.
The recognition was conferred during Sec. Gatchalian’s official visit to the municipality and serves as an expression of gratitude from the local government and community for the sustained presence and support of the DSWD in Conner, particularly through social protection, disaster response, and poverty-reduction programs.
Conner Mayor Atty. Jorico Bayaua said that the resolution symbolizes the town’s appreciation for the Secretary’s engagement with community leaders and beneficiaries, as well as the continued assistance extended to geographically challenged barangays in the municipality.
As part of the simple recognition, Sec. Gatchalian was presented with locally made Apayao products, symbolizing the municipality’s culture, resources, and the livelihoods supported by various government programs.
Municipal officials said the recognition acknowledges the DSWD’s consistent engagement with Conner’s communities, especially those in far-flung barangays.
