A new batch of young farmers in Apayao has started training in sheep production under the Farmer Livestock School, a seven-month program aimed at building skills for livestock-based livelihood.
Twenty-two participants from the province, all aged 30 and below, attended the orientation on April 16, 2026 at the Agri-Vet Training Center in San Gregorio, Luna. The program is led by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).
The training is designed to prepare participants for actual livestock work, covering breeding, feeding, animal health, and marketing. Through regular sessions, field activities, and mentoring, the program aims to equip them with practical knowledge they can apply after completion.

Provincial Veterinary Officer Dr. Ralph M. Verzon said the program focuses on involving the youth in agriculture to support food supply and create income opportunities at the local level.

Support for the initiative was also expressed by the Office of the Vice Governor and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, citing the role of youth participation in sustaining agricultural programs in the province.
With a trained group entering sheep production, the province is expected to widen its local livestock base and support small-scale producers moving into the sector.
