Cancer programs in Apayao are set to gain stronger ground following a two-day training led by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on April 7–8, 2026 at Borromeo’s Residence in Luna.
The activity, “Empowering Local Impact: NICCA and Cancer Program Pulse Check,” equipped local health workers with updated guidance on the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA), with emphasis on turning policy into workable systems at the municipal level.
With improved coordination and clearer roles among health units, the training is expected to support earlier detection, more organized referral systems, and better tracking of cancer cases in the province.

Participants also developed initial action points, including the formation of local cancer control committees, refinement of reporting systems, and alignment of services for prevention, treatment, and palliative care.
The activity was conducted by PHO in partnership with the Department of Health – Center for Health Development and the Provincial DOH Office, bringing together local health workers directly involved in service delivery.

The PHO said it will continue guiding local health units as they roll out these improvements in their respective areas.
