The Provincial Government of Apayao, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division (PDRRMD), is preparing to host the First Northern Luzon Rescuelympics, which will bring together rescue teams from Region I, Region II, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The regional event is expected to draw around 3,000 participants representing 15 provinces, marking the first time that Apayao will serve as host of the Rescuelympics.
An initial coordination meeting was held on January 27, 2026, at the LMP Hall in San Gregorio, Luna, attended by representatives from national government agencies, provincial offices, local government units, and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs). The meeting focused on initial planning, logistics, and operational requirements for the event.
Provincial Administrator Arnold Castillo said hosting the Rescuelympics for the first time carries a significant responsibility and stressed the need for close coordination among participating agencies and offices. PDRRMO Head Jeoffrey Borromeo noted that the coordination meeting laid the groundwork for preparations and identified key areas requiring early action.

Proposed activities include Governor’s Night, Benchmarking Activities, Competition Proper, and Tourism Day, scheduled on March 16 to 20, 2026, at Dacao Dam, Lower Maton, Pudtol, Apayao. Competition events will include Amazing Race, Swift Water Rescue, and Sky Pilot Maneuvering.
The meeting also covered the proposed Emergency Medical Team (EMT) and Incident Management Team (IMT) structures to ensure medical readiness, safety, logistics, and on-site coordination throughout the duration of the event.
Preparations will continue in the coming weeks as Apayao readies itself to host the regional rescue competition.
