Lawyers from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Apayao Chapter provided legal assistance to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the BJMP-Apayao District Jail on August 27 as part of a nationwide synchronized jail decongestion activity.
Under the theme “One Bar. One Mission. One Day of Freedom,” the activity focused on reviewing the legal concerns of PDLs, including the status and disposition of their cases.
IBP Apayao lawyers met with PDLs for legal consultation and case assessment, giving them an opportunity to raise concerns and receive guidance on matters affecting their cases.
The activity was conducted simultaneously by IBP chapters as part of the organization’s jail decongestion initiative, which uses legal assistance and case review to identify concerns that may be contributing to prolonged detention.
The IBP Apayao Chapter also distributed hygiene kits containing basic personal care items to PDLs during the visit.
The activity was conducted with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), combining legal assistance with ongoing efforts to address the conditions and concerns of PDLs in detention facilities.
