Women leaders from different municipalities of Apayao came together on March 24, 2026 at the Aliwa Gymnasium in Luna for the Provincial Women’s Month Celebration led by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
This year’s activity carried the theme WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society with the subtheme Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas, with participation from MSWDOs, focal persons, PSWDO staff, local officials, and members of the KALIPI women’s organization.

Discussions during the program focused on laws and services related to women’s protection. Atty. Giaya Alyssa Galut discussed Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, while Provincial Disability Affairs Officer Gretchen Garcia presented the AHON Program and its support for vulnerable sectors.

The activity also gave space to performance and creative expression. In the Apayao KALIPI Got Talent competition, participants showcased singing, dancing, and acting, with Flora, represented by Anjanette Tomas, taking first place and receiving ₱10,000.
A Trashion Show Competition followed, highlighting creativity and environmental awareness. Conner took top recognition, winning Best in Ramp and Best in Trashion Design and Designer, and was also named Miss Eco Fashion 2026 through its representative Grethel Ann Simangan. Sta. Marcela won Best in Advocacy and placed first runner-up, while Flora finished second runner-up and Pudtol third runner-up.
In her message, Pudtol Vice Mayor Teresita Bulsao said activities like the celebration provide space for women to speak, share, and stand together. She urged participants to continue supporting those facing injustice in their communities and to remain active partners in development.

A message delivered on behalf of Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang by Marinel Ginez stressed that advancing women’s rights requires shared responsibility, calling for continued efforts to protect dignity, amplify voices, and involve both women and men in building safe and inclusive communities.
The gathering also highlighted the role of women as leaders, drawing from the example of the Babaylans, known in earlier times as healers, leaders, and protectors of their communities.
The activity closed with participants reaffirming their role in pushing for gender equality and continued engagement in community development in Apayao.
