The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) met on February 11 at the Capitol Conference Hall to assess current nutrition interventions and outline priority actions for 2026–2028.
Nutrition Officer III Maria Aurora Butac presented updates on the Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) and Provincial Nutrition Action Plan (PNAP). Data show declining cases of stunting, wasting, and underweight among children, while overweight cases remain a concern that requires sustained intervention.

The committee endorsed a proposed P10 million budget for 2026 drawn from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Provincial Office for Agricultural Services (POAS), Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET), and Provincial Governor's Office (PGO). The allocation will support programs on healthy diets, improved nutrition practices, expanded access to nutrition services, and strengthened policy and service delivery mechanisms.
For 2026, strategies will focus on the first 1,000 days of life, closer alignment of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs, expanded reach to geographically isolated areas, and the rollout of Project Pakkal through inter-agency coordination.
The calendar of activities presented by partner agencies—PSWDO, Schools Division Office (SDO) Apayao, DSWD-SWAD, and POAS—includes food assistance for undernourished children, Project Pakkal support for identified families, Sustainable Livelihood Program interventions for 266 families, school-based feeding and deworming, Gulayan sa Paaralan, WINS monitoring, weekly Iron-Folic Acid supplementation, vegetable seedling distribution, production and nutrition training, and capacity-building for Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

PHO-led activities will cover health and nutrition monitoring, maternal and child health services, immunization follow-ups, and community-based health education. Additional activities lined up for the year include the MELLPI Pro assessment, the Regional Nutrition Convention, the Regional Nutrition in Action Conference, and a dermatology caravan in Calanasan.
In his closing message, Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Jay Jay Roaquin thanked partner agencies for their continued support and called for sustained coordination to meet the province’s nutrition targets.
